Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Readings: Isa 9:1-6; Ps 112[113]:1-8; Lk 1:26-38

Focus: “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word” (Lk 1:38)

Mary was Jesus’ most loyal follower. As today’s Gospel reveals, Gabriel’s announcement that Jesus would “reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end” (Lk 1:33) implied that Mary, his mother, would be a queen. Indeed, all the remarkable mysteries of her life were closely connected with his. If Jesus is King of Kings, is it any wonder that his mother should share in his kingship as Queen of Heaven and Earth? Yet she remained humble and unassuming and lived in submission to God’s will (Focus) till the end of her days.

It was not till 1954 that Pope Pius XII declared that Mary deserved to be Queen because she was Mother of God, because she was closely associated with Jesus’ redemptive mission and because of her innate perfection.

Today’s feast is fittingly celebrated on the octave day of Mary’s glorious assumption into heaven.

A royal coronation is usually an impressive affair with immense pageantry and ceremony and many days of feasting and rejoicing. But Mary’s coronation must have been different. She knew that it is only God who ‘raises the poor from the dust… to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people’ (Ps 112[113]:7-8).

Fruit: Mary Queen of Heaven and Earth teaches us how to remain modest even when we receive a great honour.

Genesis 26:1-11

POSSESSING THE FAVOUR THAT WILL MAKE YOU UNTOUCHABLE

In the above text we are told that there was a famine in the land and God instructed Isaac not to go down to Egypt. It is very common for Christians to go down whenever they encounter challenges in life. I once talked about the downward syndrome  in one of my previous devotions. But God is warning Isaac to be mindful of this downward  syndrome. Upward ever and Downward never should be our motto as Christians. Friends we need this favour of God which will help us to continue focusing on the upward or a higher dimension even in the midst of severe challenges. So Isaac went to Gerar where fear forced him to lie that Rebekah was his sister and not his wife. Isaac was ignorant about the nature of the favour which was upon him. He was afraid of Abimelech (The Father of the Kings) and the Philistines so much that he forgot that he was carrying God's favour. Abimelech later discovered that Rebekah was a wife to Isaac and was angry with Isaac, then in verse 11 he warned all the people saying,  "whoever touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death." Are you aware that you possess a favour that will make you untouchable. With the favour of God upon your life, you are untouchable. Even if you are thrown in the fire, in the lion's den, you are untouchable. Philistines were enemies of the people of God, but in the above text we see Abimelech the Father of all Philistinian kings giving an order that noone was to touch Isaac and his wife. Paul in Romans says, '....if Christ is for us who can be against us?' (Romans 8:31) Friends with Christ we are untouchable. Even if we are surrounded by wicked people like Philistines, witches, satanists, murderers, corrupt people, etc we remain untouchable. So you need to carry this Divine favour wherever you go. With this favour upon your life, you will walk through the shadow of death and death will not dare to touch you, your marriage will be surrounded by marriage vultures but they will not dare to devour it, your health will be surrounded by the health vultures but nothing will touch it. Heeeey, carry the favour of God and you will tbecome untouchable and no Philistinian King will dare to touch you. Are you afraid of the challenges which you are facing in your life, marriage, relationship, workplace, nation, education, financial and political challenges? My friend listen to me and listen good, with Christ's favour upon us we are untouchable, all our enemies will tremble upon seeing us. We pray that this type of God's favour which was upon Isaac will be upon us wherever we go and that we become untouchable in Jesus name. We command that the devil himself will warn his own agents that we are untouchable, our children, spouses, possessions, brains, marriages, relationships etc are untouchable and anyone who attempts to touch us or our possessions will do it at his/her own risk. I like this song which goes like, "I am a winner ×2, the devil knows that i am a winner." I am untouchable and let the devil know that i am untouchable. Let this type of God's favour rest upon my life all the days of my life. Blessed Day.
