This guide provides selected high-quality resources on the global, political, economic, social and cultural aspects of the continent of Africa and its countries. It features individual country pages as well as sources searchable by topic or country.

West Africa

The West Africa UN subregion includes the following countries:Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte D'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Helena, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo . The region has a long history of post-colonial civil wars that have created an obstacle to economic development. In recent years peace has widely been achieved with the signing of treaties.
Other significant sources' country subdivsions include those arranged by the African Development Bank Group and the African Union.

  • African Country Research

    Africa is the world's second largest continent in area.  The countries differ immensely geographically, politically, socially, economically, and culturally.
    The UN Statistics Division has subdivided the African continent into five regions, Northern Africa, Central or Middle Africa , Southern Africa, East Africa, and Western Africa. These subdivisions include the following countries:
    The African Development Bank Group , the African Union and AllAfrica (an African based news aggregrate service) use slightly different Subdivsions.
